RENEWABLE ENERGY CERTIFICATES
MA RECs are Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) specific to Massachusetts, which represent the environmental attributes of one megawatt-hour (MWh) of electricity from a renewable source. These are used to meet the state’s Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS), which mandates that all electricity suppliers source a growing percentage of their energy from new renewable generators. MA RECs are tracked and traded through the New England Generation Information System (NE-GIS) and can be sold to utilities to generate income for the renewable energy producer
